City Government Experience

Alderperson - City of Beaver Dam

2022 - present

I represent District 2 on the southeast side of Beaver Dam. The City Council meets the first and third Mondays of the month.

I regularly educate myself on city issues. I have attended one 2-day conference for city leaders and several online seminars. I regularly read related publications and articles. I also gather information from city department heads and community members.

Chairperson - Administrative Committee, City of Beaver Dam

2023 - present

Our Common Council is divided into two committees. As chair of the Administrative Committee I run the twice-monthly meetings. I also help set the agenda beforehand, consulting with the City Administrator, Clerk Clerk and other city department heads.

Board Member - Beaver Dam Area Development Corp.

2022 - present

I serve as the City Council representative to the Beaver Dam Area Community Development Board. This group of local professionals, led by Executive Vice President Trent Campbell,  includes leaders in business, real estate, finance and law. This not-for-profit entity serves as the city's economic development engine and it has taken a lead role in a variety of small and large-scale business recruitment and expansion projects in the community.

President American  Association of  University Women (AAUW)
                                              Beaver Dam branch

2021 - present

AAUW is an international organization dedicated to equity for women and girls through education, advocacy and research. Our local branch has given scholarships to high school students every year since 1934 and more recently to women returning to MPTC. We host educational and cultural programs & book discussions, most of which are open to the public, plus we volunteer at the Food-Is-Free food pantry each week. 

As president, I am responsible for leading our board of directors which plans all our programs and raises all our scholarship funds. I communicate regularly with local members as well as our state and national organizations.

 

Advisory Board member - B. D. Area Community Foundation

2020 - present

The BDACF is a  public charitable organization dedicated to improving the lives of people in the Beaver Dam area. Their mission is to unite donors to the non-profit causes they care about. Their Community Fund has given out over $200,000 in grants to local non-profit groups since 2019.

As a board member I attend  meetings, serve on the subcommittee which gives out grants twice per year and help with fundraising.

Professional Experience


Social Studies Teacher - Beaver Dam High School

1985 - 2016

I truly loved my career teaching history, economics and government to grades 9 - 12  students.   My favorites were U.S. History, World History and senior Economics.

Early in my career I coached varsity gymnastics and later was advisor to GSA and the Academic Decathlon team, as well as being the assistant coach for the Mock Trial team. I also did choreography, costumes and/or assistant directing for several school musicals and plays. I served on many district committees, directed two federal grants and was an active member of the Beaver Dam Education Association, including terms as secretary and president.ll our scholarship funds. I communicate regularly with local members as well as our state and national organizations.

Education

University of Wisconsin - Madison

I graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor's of Science in Broadfield Social Studies with concentrations in History, Economics and Sociology. Go, Badgers!
